About Us

South Carroll Aero Modelers, or SCAM, was formed in 1983 and currently consists of approximately 70 members.  We are a small group of casual flyers just out to have a good time and help others enjoy the sport.  We are located in Skyesville, MD. on the campus of the Springfield State Hospital just east of Rt. 32.  Click for directions.

Our Field

We have an approximate 600 x 100 foot grass runway with 5 pilot stations.  The runway is cut at least 2 times a week during the growing season and rolled in the late spring.  The flying area is approximately 10 acres.  In the fall and early winter deer can be seen watching us fly and during the summer groundhogs come to the edge of the runway to watch.

Intro Pilot Program

SCAM participates in the Intro Pilot Program, sponsored by the AMA, which allows a non-AMA member to fly their plane at our field.  As stated from the AMA, "This program is only intended to introduce the non-AMA member to aeromodeling while providing liability insurance coverage to the non-AMA member and the chartered club."

We have several AMA certified pilots that can show you just how fun RC flying can be!!
